Meet Dr. Sheehan

Dr. Kristen Colleran

Veterinarian

Dr. Kristen Colleran received her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Illinois. She graduated with honors in Small Animal Medicine from the National University of Ireland, University College Dublin in 1999.

Like many veterinarians, Dr. Colleran knew from a very young age (6 years old!) that she was destined to be an animal healer. She grew up with dogs, a multitude of hamsters, and birds. She was also an avid horsewoman in her youth and still loves to ride when she finds the opportunity.

Being a second-generation Irish-American, she has a generous array of family to visit in Ireland. Dr. Colleran travelled there regularly and developed a deep love for the country. Combining her love of animals and Ireland, she attended veterinary college in Dublin, an experience she will always cherish.

Following graduation, Dr. Colleran spent the next 2 years working in Ireland, treating pets as well as horses and farm animals. She then returned to the U.S. and shifted her focus to small animals. Having been exposed to the healing effects of alternative medicine, personally and through the patients of a colleague practicing acupuncture and herbal medicine, she felt that she could best serve her patients with a more holistic approach. In 2009, Dr. Colleran completed her Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture at the Chi Institute. Adding to her skill set, she became a Certified Veterinary Spinal Manipulator (also referred to as a Veterinary Chiropractor) through Healing Oasis Wellness Center. Additionally, she is working on certification in physical rehabilitation and pain management. Finally, she is a Master Reiki Practitioner. She is an experienced diagnostician and surgeon, and with her training in holistic medicine, she can offer an integrated approach to treating many common medical conditions.

Dr. Colleran is a member of the AVMA, AHVMA, CIVT and AATCVM. She is also a member of the College of Animal Chiropractors.

In her spare time, she thrives on running, hiking, yoga practice, soaking up the salty air at the beach, and reading. She loves to travel, returning for visits to Ireland as well as visiting other destinations.
